What to expect
Before a course of treatment, you will undergo a consultation and examination. This is to formulate a diagnosis that is as precise as possible to see whether the problem qualifies for Chiropractic treatment.
If it is your first visit, and you are a new patient, you will need to complete a Patient Health Questionnaire. This will take about 10 minutes to complete, and you can do this while you wait at reception.
There are three main stages to the examination and first visit:
This provides your Chiropractor with vital information on your past and present medical history and plays a large part in formulating a working diagnosis.
Orthopedic and neurological tests are used to help identify what may be the cause of the pain or discomfort.
Report of findings
During this stage your Chiropractor will explain to you what may be the problem and how this can be treated or if further investigation or referral is needed. This is called a working diagnosis and is the basis for the treatment plan.
If appropriate the first treatment will be offered to you once the above three stages have been completed.
It is important to keep in mind that you are in control of the entire examination process, asking your Chiropractor questions about any aspect of the examination, diagnosis or treatment plan is welcomed, as a large part of the healing comes from understanding the cause of the problem and the reasoning behind the treatment plan.
